During his 10 years of coaching high-school rowing, Jason’s crews won 12 International Championship events, set a Canadian course record time and won back-to-back events with the same four athletes—a feat never before achieved at a National Championship. All of this the byproduct of a team-culture built around compassion, empathy and love—for self, for one another, for their endeavour and for their competitors. The environment Jason fostered as a coach provided emotional safety for his athletes—from that safety, his athletes felt free to fail but also, ultimately, achieved success on levels they had never dreamt possible.
Along with individuals from all walks of life, Robyn continues to support high-performance and National Team athletes by optimizing their mental and emotional game.
Jason and Robyn’s competitive strategy, a paradox to be sure, is to convince individuals and teams that ‘winning’ is a limiting goal—and rather to win is the byproduct of striving for excellence.
Jason has been the most influential coach I’ve had during my nine years of rowing—this can be attributed to his unique philosophy on how to achieve high-performance.
Jason has the incredible ability to inspire and motivate you to not only become the best athlete you can be, but also the best person.
Jason instilled in me the value of pushing myself beyond my own perceived limits, giving me a whole new perspective on training and what my body was actually capable of.
The most enduring aspect of having worked with Jason was his focus on psychological preparation, not just on race day but during practice as well… Jason’s ability to teach his athletes to embrace the opportunity to improve themselves enhanced the team’s morale and developed a trusting environment where all athletes were committed to each other.
Jason redefines what it means to be a coach, mentor and friend.
Jason encouraged us to approach each workout as an opportunity, not an obstacle. Very soon I found myself improving better than I ever had before, and I knew that I had adopted an irreplaceable technique to approaching sport.
Jason took me from a kid that barely knew what cardio was, and transformed me into an athlete with all of the tools to compete at the highest levels of NCAA Division 1 rowing. But, more importantly, Jason gave me the right tools to succeed in all aspects of life.
Jason has not only helped me succeed as an athlete, but he’s made me a better person, as well.
Working with Jason, you actually have the time to enjoy the process of becoming a better athlete, and a better person.
Jason’s ability to help people realize what is important and strive to become the best person you can be has impacted our lives significantly.
Both my wife and I absolutely give Jason the highest recommendation to anyone looking for more than just a coach to mentor an athlete to reach their highest performance on a personal and athletic level.
Everyone has what it takes to be a better athlete, more rounded person or refined individual, although sometimes they need a guide to teach them how—Jason did that for me.
Jason’s methods not only helped shape my son into a better athlete, but also a better teammate, and more disciplined student.
Our son would be the first to tell you that he learned more fundamentally important life lessons out on the water with Jason than he did in the classroom.
